Dr. Thomas G. Calderon

Dr. Thomas G. Calderon is Professor of Accounting Emeritus at The University of Akron and a consultant in enterprise risk management, corporate governance, risk disclosure, and auditing. He advises organizations on governance, high-risk financial transactions, and the deployment of artificial intelligence.
From 2005 to 2018, he served as Chair of the University’s George W. Daverio School of Accountancy, leading initiatives in accreditation, curriculum, faculty development, and strategic planning. His engagements span the United States, the Caribbean, Asia, South America, and the United Kingdom.
He has authored more than 100 academic and professional publications and held leadership roles with the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and AACSB accreditation review teams. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of the West Indies, Mona, and a Ph.D. in Business from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Calderon’s consulting focuses on developing, assessing, and monitoring enterprise risk management and auditing systems, particularly for Caribbean and regional organizations responding to heightened regulatory scrutiny and digital transformation. He advises boards and senior management on strategic planning, governance, and risk disclosure.
In auditing, he supports the modernization of internal and external audit processes through data analytics and visualization tools that strengthen assurance over liquidity, operational, and financial reporting risk. He also designs and delivers professional development programs in corporate governance, financial forensics, enterprise risk management, auditing, and artificial intelligence governance.
